If you’re a regular Botanus Garden Club viewer you know that I love a good story! Especially when it sheds a bit of light on the wonderful flowering plants in our gardens. With my Artful Garden Collection you’ll be inviting some of the world’s most respected artisans into your garden - in plant form, that is! The really fun thing about this special collection is not only the stories and names behind the plants but the variety of colours, forms and blooming times of these gorgeous spring flowers. And did I mention the fragrance?
Amadeus Mozart is a beautiful, hard to find Narcissi that produces really interesting and rather unusual looking flowers. They’re made up of pure white petals and deeply frilled, multi-layered orange-yellow cups. This is a vigorous and long lasting Narcissi that will add colour and pizzazz to your garden and like its namesake will provide a lasting legacy of graceful beauty.
Barret Browning is an enchanting Narcissi. To quote its namesake, Elizabeth Barrett Browning - one the most prominent English poets of the Victorian era - “I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach.” It bears lovely, wide white petals and smallish, fiery orange frilled cups. In well drained locations you will enjoy these for years.
Jules Verne is my all-time favourite Narcissi. I’m a huge fan of Jules Verne’s literary works and you can imagine my joy some fifteen years ago when I first grew these awesome Narcissi. Like his carefully crafted novels, this special flower offers blooms that will not disappoint and will keep you hanging on until the very last flower has faded.
Rembrandt is a hyacinth that deserves a spot in every garden. In the traditional Delft Blue colours, this Dutch classic has it all: colour, fragrance, early blooms and makes a fantastic cut flower. Of course, like Rembrandt’s works it too paints a pretty picture in the spring garden.
Vincent van Gogh is a very special tulip that, in my opinion, reflects the mysterious nature of the painter himself. Van Gogh created some of the world’s most revered paintings yet his personal life was tragic. The dark purple, fringed edges of this late blooming tulip are delicate and intricate. Like Van Gogh’s works they invite you to take a closer look, to contemplate and to enjoy the beauty found there.
The Artful Garden Collection is truly a storybook collection of beautiful flowers that will delight, amaze and provide points of interest to your garden. It is a fine tribute to the artists whose names will live on in the flowers that bloom!
