Cannas are a very popular summer garden plant because they create a real tropical feel and provide not only spectacular flowers but lush foliage as well! They do particularly well in pots and containers. Dwarf varieties make particularly good border plants. Cannas love full sun so be sure to pick a sunny spot. Plant them in rich, moist soil and make sure to add generous amounts of compost and manure. In most Canadian zones the rhizomes must be lifted before the first frost and stored in a frost-free place. Clean and divide before replanting.
