When it comes to my garden, it’s not only important that I have beautiful flowering plants but I also like to attract beneficial animals and insects. After watching the birds feed on some of my Echinaceas last fall, I decided it would be a great idea to create a garden collection that the birds would love. It feels good to give back to Mother Nature.

Pamela Dangelmaier

Pam's Bird-Friendly Garden Collection includes:

1 Cornus canadensis (2.5" plug)

This ground cover has lovely foliage and pure white flowers that resemble a Dogwood. The high-fat red berries are a valuable energy source for migrating birds.

1 Baptisia australis (2.5" plug)

Blue Wild Indigo is one of the longest lived perennial plants. It’s a nice tough plant that always looks great and the seedpods are very attractive to birds.

2 Solidago 'Super'
(Bare Roots)

The bees and butterflies will feast first on Goldenrod’s nectar and pollen and then it’s the birds like juncos, sparrows and finches who will move in to enjoy the seed heads.

2 Rudbeckia 'Herbstsonne' (Bare Roots)

This classic perennial is a favourite of gardeners and birds. The sunny yellow blooms are so cheerful and house finches, chickadees and goldfinches will feed on the seed heads.

2 Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' (2.5" plugs)

An important fall food source for many birds, Coneflowers are also drought tolerant, easy to grow and make a wonderful display in any garden!
