Novelty Amaryllis 'Santiago' is one of Elke's Faves this season...this is what she has to say:
Having walked the Camino de Santiago myself, this Amaryllis was an easy choice simply because of its name. But this amaryllis offers more than just a great name. Raspberry red and white stripes and a light green throat make this an extraordinary beauty!
Like a starburst, Santiago will open its buds to reveal bright white petals accented with cherry red stripes. Lightly fragrant too!
Enjoy the unique features of some of our special Novelty Amaryllis varieties! This beautiful hybrid, whose scientific name is Hippeastrum, is so easy to grow indoors and the results are spectacular. The amaryllis is ideal for people who have little time or inclination to spend on high-maintenance flowers and plants. We also highly recommend them for Christmas gift giving and for colder climate areas where a bit of indoor colour is welcome during the winter months.
Within six weeks, you will have an exotic floral crop and each Amaryllis bulb produces one to two stalks with at least four wide-open trumpet-like flowers. You'll love watching the flower stalk shoot upwards with amazing speed and blossom with enormous flowers measuring 8-10 in (20-25 cm). And don't forget: with a few simple steps you can get your Amaryllis to rebloom again next winter!
