Novelty Dahlia 'Encore' is one of Elke's Faves this season...this is what she has to say:
Wow, what a fun and good looking dahlia we have here. Encore is like a little explosion of a yellow paint bucket. Like all dahlias, it blooms late in the season and gives you a burst of colour when most flowers are done with blooming. The flower head grows up to 10” across and is simply a stunner.
Huge blooms! This fringed, dinnerplate dahlia is nothing less than magnificent.
Originally developed for the cut flower industry in Holland, Encore has strong stems and longest lasting blooms. No staking required! Originating from Mexico and Guatemala, these were the flowers of Inca kings and despite their royal origins Dahlias are amongst the easiest plants to grow in the garden.
They are a wonderful source of cut flowers and will provide a veritable cornucopia of colourful blooms for your bouquets from mid summer until the first frost. Hardy as they are, Dahlias are susceptible to cold so be careful not to plant them too early and be sure to dig them up after the first frost and store them in a frost-free place.
