Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine' is one of Elke's Faves this season...this is what she has to say:

This adorable Dicentra is called ‘Valentine’ because  it is red and beautiful. Deep green foliage and a rich red flower colour made me want it. It is the conversation piece I was looking for in my shade garden. This plant brings the old fashioned, Bleeding Heart to the next level.

Striking red and white heart-shaped blooms dangle delicately along the burgundy-coloured stems. 'Valentine' is a sweetheart!

Dicentra comes from the Greek words 'dis' meaning twice and 'kentron' meaning a spur for the two-spurred flowers. Commonly called Bleeding Hearts, dicentra have protruding inner petals that look like a drop of blood at the bottom of each heart-shaped flower. They are easily grown in medium moisture, well-drained soils in partial to full shade. Soil must not be allowed to dry out during summer and dicentra are generally intolerant of wet soils in the winter. To promote additional blooms, remove spent flowering stems.
