Fairy Wings are prized for their bright green, heart-shaped leaves that are edged in red. They make bold borders or full ground cover in those shady spots that need some bright colour.
This epimedium hybrid, commonly called Red Barrenwort is a cross between E. alpinum and E. grandiflorum. It is a clump-forming perennial which is primarily used as a ground cover or edger in shady or woodland areas. It produces compound, medium green leaves with pointed, heart-shaped leaves on wiry stems thus creating attractive foliage mounds. New leaves in spring emerge with a red tinge, mature to green and turn reddish in fall.
