Fritillaria persica is one of Wendy's Faves this season...this is what she has to say:

Fritillarias are a fun way to attract attention to your garden. The tall silvery green spires hold a lovely collection of waxy, dark purple bell-shaped flowers that will draw attention wherever you plant them. The only ones who won’t like them will be the deer, squirrels, and rabbits and that is a good thing!

Fritillaria persica grows in tall spires with multiple, hanging blooms of dark plum. It requires full sun, excellent drainage and a light loamy soil to flower and thrive.

These interesting plants make an interesting contrast to yellow and white flowers. If you would like yearly flowering we suggest lifting the bulbs in July and storing them in a warm (over 20°C) location and then replant them in the fall. Be sure to provide good drainage as Fritillarias are somewhat sensitive to water retentive soil.
