'Star's Favourite' is one of Wendy's Faves this season...this is what she has to say:
I remember falling in love with Dahlias for the first time, years ago, when my good friend Sheila showed me ones growing in her garden. I couldn’t believe they were real! Star’s Favourite is a pink and cream wonder, with a profuse amount of wild, curled petals. You too may fall in love.
This multi award-winning (18 in fact!) Dahlia has a spectacular track record. It's elegant-looking with fully double flowers that reach 6-8" across.
Cactus Dahlias are easy to recognize by the profusion of florets that gently roll outwards. These narrowly pointed petals give them a spidery, cactus-like look. Expect blooms up to 10” – 25 cm in size.
Originating from Mexico and Guatemala, these were the flowers of Inca kings and despite their royal origins Dahlias are amongst the easiest plants to grow in the garden.
They are a wonderful source of cut flowers and will provide a veritable cornucopia of colourful blooms for your bouquets from mid summer until the first frost. Hardy as they are, Dahlias are susceptible to cold so be careful not to plant them too early and be sure to dig them up after the first frost and store them in a frost-free place.
